Target group:
The MEM course is designed to provide persons with responsibility for managing and controlling emergencies an opportunity to practice such operations and processes in a controlled manner. The sessions can be conducted using a generic offshore platform or tailored to specific company or personnel employed on different types of installations.

 

Prerequisites:

No prior training achievement required. A reasonable command of English language is required
 
Objective:
To provide persons with responsibility for managing and controlling emergencies an opportunity to practice such operations and processes in a controlled manner. The training will expose candidates to emergency scenarios that can be designed around their actual installations operation and Emergency Response Procedures.
 
Contents:
 
Module 1 (1.5 days)
Theory of emergency management. To provide emergency teams an understanding of command and control during emergencies, the set up of an ECC (Emergency Command Centre) and the procedures that take place with OIMs, their emergency teams and communications with support teams onshore. Theory modules will cover the types of major emergencies that can occur, the emergency manager and the differences between normal management, ECC information management systems, pre-planning and maintaining a state of readiness (using emergency response plans, operation manuals and procedures) and finally dealing with stress.
 
Module 2 (2.5 days)
Practical Elements of Major Emergency Management Classroom and simulator based exercises, delegates will receive training with first-hand experience in the management of major emergencies with various degrees of difficulty, assessing the situation, taking effective action, maintaining communications, delegating authority and managing self and team performances. Delegates will receive feedback on their performance after each exercise and a DVD of their performance will be produced on completion of the course. The severity of the simulations will bematched to the individuals, background, abilities, competence and progress made throughout the coaching phase of the course
 
Exam:
After completion of course delegates will be issued with an OPITO approved certificate and appraisal with DVD.
